Along with the recent announcement of the Godavari APU, AMD has officially revealed their latest 6th generation notebook APU previously codenamed as the Carrizo. AMD claims that the new processors offer twice the battery life and performance than the previous generation APU’s.

The new Carrizo APU features 12 compute cores, 4 of which is the Excavator CPU cores, and the rest are the 8 GCN GPU cores. AMD claims that the new CPU cores with its 15W design outperforms the previous generation by a total of 55%, with less battery consumption. The Carrizo APU is the world’s first processor to offer High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), along with Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) programming support for the notebook platform.

As for the 3rd generation GCN cores, AMD claims that gaming performance has increased for up to a total of 65%. The total compute power goes up to 819 GFLOPS. The new Radeon graphics bring in support for Direct X 12 graphics technology, along with improved tessellation. AMD also says that the graphics performance can improve up to 42% while paring with select Radeon R7 discrete GPU’s.

Expect AMD Carrizo based laptops to hit the Middle Eastern market later this year.
