It was just a matter of time until ASUS unleashed its latest Poseidon graphics card that allows users to choose between air and liquid cooling. We take a look at the beastly-looking ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 1080 Ti, featuring power, style, and a bit of an infinite lighting illusion.
Design
While air cooling is quite sufficient enough for optimal GPU performance, you always have the opportunity to push it further with the help of liquid cooling. The standard G1/4-inch Terminal Block lets you choose between a wide range of fittings for easier plumbing of a custom water loop. The new DirectCU H20 hybrid thermal solution consists of a combination of a vapor chamber and a water channel. Compared to previous generations, ASUS has increased the water-flow rate up to 22% on the ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 1080 Ti for better heat dissipation.
Adding to the new improvements of the Poseidon GTX 1080 Ti is the bigger chassis that takes up to 2.5-inch slots in size, thus allowing the increase of the heat dissipation area up to 40%. The previous graphics card generations only occupied 2 slots. The dual air-cooling fans are based on ASUS’s patented wing-blade design that delivers 105% better static pressure over the heat sink. And with the new IP5X certification, the fan internals are protected from dust for better lifespan. The 0db fan technology ensures absolute silence when the PC is idle or while playing a low-taxing game.
ASUS takes its AURA lighting to the next level on the ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 1080 Ti with its mirror-reflection design concept that gives the illusion of a depth that goes beyond infinity. Take our word for the fact that you will keep staring at illusion from different angles to check out where the illusion ends. The illusion can be configured with different colors and lighting effects and makes it look like the Poseidon has a water tank inside with LED effects- that would have also been cool if it was a reality.
The back backplate also features a ROG AURA logo that’s also seen on many other ASUS graphics cards, along with the smooth hairline finish and gamer-centric lines.
The ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 1080 Ti comes with one DVI-D, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and two regular ports. ASUS made sure to implement two HDMI ports for a VR-ready system. You will require two full blown 8-pin power connectors for the card.
