Microsoft Gulf and Dubai-based flydubai have announced that the airline has begun using a Windows 8 application at Dubai International airport Terminal 2 to facilitate passenger check-in cutting the time to only two minutes per passenger. The App runs on a touch-enabled tablet that connects to the airline’s backend services and is integrated with a passport scanner and printer. The Windows App aims to ease the process of check-in for passengers by allowing staff to scan passenger information, assign seats and issue boarding passes on the spot.
Michael Mansour at Microsoft Gulf, said: “At Microsoft, we’re committed to helping customers do more through our technology innovation. Travel is one of the fastest growing industries in the region. It is under increasing pressure to deliver improved quality of service while tackling productivity and workforce shortage challenges. The Windows 8 App developed for flydubai is a regional first, enabling staff to check-in passengers on-the-go. The flydubai App is an excellent example of how Windows 8 enables organisations to do more based on the software’s operational flexibility and features. ”
