Right, so my Alienware M11x R1 is slowly but surely going to see its end. So I thought it would be a good time to look at my options smile

Before you start screaming the whole ‘LAPTOPS AREN’T FOR GAMING’ crap, let me digress - I’m not going to be using this laptop for gaming primarily, but it would be nice to play games on it every once in a while. I originally paid about AED 5,000 for my Alienware, so might be able to stretch my budget to that if need be, but would be ace if I could get anything for a bit less.

Any suggestions?

And Abbas if you post anything related to Apple, I will beat you with my manbag.

I’m a big fan of Lenovo thinkpads. If you go for the T-series models, you get a good sturdy build. The price might be a little bit on the higher end, but I assure you of the quality. I’ve had 3 thinkpads over the last 10+ years (and all of them were retired/given away, than failures).

Regarding gaming, I’m currently playing Starcraft 2 on medium settings, as well as some occasional games on Steam (which don’t require high end configs), and the performance has been steady, despite the fact that I run these with the resource-whore that is Lotus Notes raspberry

Another cool feature is that you’re able to add another internal drive using the Ultrabay adapter (which fits in place of the DVD drive).

My current config:
Thinkpad T410, Intel i7 M620 @2.67 GHz, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 320 GB HDD, Windows 7 Professional x64.

Awesome - thanks skyron. I’m a fan of thinkpad as well, and I remember looking at some of their models before my M11x. Might see what the retail price is and would definitely benefit from having the second drive if need be.

i hate laptops

this statement doesn’t really help the TS at all..shut eye

@ Nick,

that little M11x sure was one helluva laptop and although it seems that age got into it now, it still smokes some newer laptops currently on the market and thats a great feat if you ask me. but then again you are now looking for a replacement eh?

well, if brushed aluminum-finish is your thing then i could safely recommend the HP ENVY dv6t-7200, for its price, which is less than what you paid for the M11x on its prime, the performance, aesthetics and quality on this notebook is superb.

although its a little bit heavy due to the robust deisgn and components, it thus ensure sturdiness and build quality.wink
