The end days of large-sized heavy gaming laptops seem to be drawing closer, as MSI has been busy making new designs that offer extreme portability, performance, and gaming instincts for the gamer who never wants to quit. While we have seen impressive thin and light gaming laptops from MSI in the past, the latest MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro definitely takes the cake. Let’s see what the new model has to offer.
Design and Features
Gaming laptops are usually known to radiate the look of a mean-machine but MSI tries a different approach by introducing a new, industrial form factor with the MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro. The design is clean and simple from the outside with no unnecessary chassis add-ons, yet it’s hard to believe that such a thin model packs in so much power. Measuring at 17.7mm, and weighing 1.8kgs, the MSI GS63VR is unbelievably light for a gaming laptop.
Yes, you get the usual multi-color SteelSeries keyboard which can be custom tuned for the gamer’s preferences, and the smooth trackpad for your gaming controls. We are also familiar with the brushed metal skin that engulfs the keyboard palm rest portion.
And above the keyboard is a horizontal DynAudio speaker mesh with an LED power indicator in the middle. It’s like each hole in the mesh represents a light of its own, merged to appear as a power icon- a nice touch. It would have been so cool if that was a capacitive power button.
One of the best parts that we loved about the MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro is that the keyboard palm rest seamlessly bends towards the side ports-like a simple slab without the sharp edges.
On the left, the laptop features an RJ-45 KILLER jack, an SD card reader, 3 x USB 3.0 ports, and audio ports.
Things get more interesting as the right side features one USB 2.0 port, a Thunderbolt USB 3.1 Type-C port that’s fast enough to support up to two 4K displays, a full sized HDMI 2.0, a mini-Display Port and a power connector. Notice the red power button on the left end of the right side? While the button placement is very easy to reach, this could be a problem as we accidentally pressed the button many times.
