Over a year back, we had the chance to play around with the monstrous MSI GT80 that sported dual GTX 980M GPUs. The machine was truly in a class of its own but we felt that it could use some more power considering the size of the chassis. Today, we have the updated model- the MSI GT83VR 6RF Titan SLI that is supercharged with two full-sized dual GTX 1080 GPUs. Did that get your pulse going?
Design and Features
Truly the dreadnaught of the MSI gaming laptop line-up, the design of the GT83VR 6RF Titan SLI looks almost the same as the previous MSI GT80 Titan. You get the same shiny metal hairline treatment on the lid, and on the front metal plate that holds the MSI dragon insignia. Under this place lies most of the major laptop hardware (CPU, the dual GPUs, cooling fans, DynaAudio 4+1 speakers etc.) which is a smart design, considering that no heat comes towards the keyboard/trackpad area.
Speaking of keyboard, one of the main features that makes this laptop unique is the inclusion of the mechanical keyboard from SteelSeries with Cherry MX switches that’s meant for gaming. We absolutely loved the press and the feel of the keys.
Another exclusive that’s only seen on the GT80 series is the multi-mode trackpad that can change itself to a touch-based numeric pad with just a tap on the “NUM” capacitive key. An LED lies beneath the trackpad to showcase the numbers when on numeric mode. Since the front space of the laptop is taken over by the metal lid and the mechanical keyboard, the trackpad is vertically placed on the right side to save space, and for better game controls for the player.
