Samsung debuts its top selling OMNIA in the Middle East

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone and telecommunication equipment provider, today announced the availability of its top selling OMNIA touch phone in the Middle East. Bringing together high performance business content, top of the range style and a fun, dynamic multi-media experience, the OMNIA is an elegant touch phone for sophisticated consumers in the Middle East.

Samsung’s cutting-edge smart phone Omnia is emerging as the hottest-selling model in major European smart phone markets. According to market research institute GfK, Omnia gained a share of 14.9% in the German smart phone market in December 2008, ranking No. 1 among major smart phone models, including the Black Berry, Nokia E71 and iPhone. Omnia maintained its leadership for two straight months starting from November in the German smart phone market.
In the French and Italian markets, the two Omnia models were among the top three popular models with a share of 17.2% and 15%, respectively. Even in the Western European markets, including Finland and the UK, the Omnia models were positioned among the top ten.
“We’re seeing a major shift towards smartphones, like the OMNIA, in the Middle East and research findings show that more than one in four handsets will be a smartphone with more than 1.5 billion being sold in year 2010. With Samsung’s patented TouchWiz the user interface makes entering data and text simple. The Samsung OMNIA’s high resolution touch-sensitive screen uses intuitive tap, sweep, drag and drop operations as well as an on-screen keyboard. Delivering the ultimate in digital entertainment thanks to a wide 3.2-inch WQVGA LCD screen the OMNIA is great for viewing videos and slide shows in high-resolution and advanced audio capabilities.
The Samsung OMNIA also comes equipped with a five-megapixel CMOS camera with the latest value-added features and the handset’s generous internal memory (available in 8GB or 16 GB capacity options and extendable slot for additions) ensures ample storage space for digital assets like music. Samsung OMNIA also offers GPS, including navigation and geo-tagging capabilities, so users can get their bearings wherever work or life takes them.

The New Nokia E75 now available for booking

Nokia kicked off its booking campaign for the Nokia E75, giving UAE residents the opportunity to be the first to own the new device when it hits the market in March. Consumers can put in their orders starting this week at any of the number of authorized retailers across the Emirates.
With the Nokia E75, people will no longer need to boot up a PC to get a full desktop email experience. Allowing direct access to Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes, the enhanced email UI includes folder and HTML email support, expandable views and sorting capability by date, sender and size, as well as the most commonly used email functions just a single click away. On top of email, the device also offers improved calendar capability, as well as contacts and task management. “With the Nokia E75 we took a lot of inspiration from the Nokia 9300, which was our first mini communicator,” says Kai Oistamo, executive vice president at Nokia. “Owners of the Nokia 9300 loved the messaging functionality a full keyboard provided, but also used the traditional phone keypad a great deal. With the Nokia E75 we kept these essential ingredients, significantly upgraded all of the features and made it as compact as possible.”
The Nokia E75 also comes with full Nokia Maps and assisted GPS with integrated 3-month license for turn-by-turn navigation, and a great gaming experience with N-Gage on board. With Ovi Files, also included on the Nokia E75, important files stored on a PC can be remotely managed and shared, even when your PC is switched off.

Etisalat launches iPhone in the UAE and KSA

Etisalat today announced the launch of iPhone 3G in United Arab Emirates and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on February 22nd 2009.
iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone plus 3G networking that is twice as fast*, built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services, and iPhone 2.2 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs thousands of third party applications available through the Apple App Store.

Intel Capital Invests in Three UAE Companies

Intel Capital, Intel Corporation’s global investment organization, has announced an investment in three UAE-based technology companies: Conservus International FZ-LLC, Pulse Technologies FZ-LLC, and Vertex Animation Studio FZ-LLC. The funding, from the Intel Capital Middle East and Turkey Fund, will assist the companies in pursuing regional growth and development plans in addition to extending their product offerings. Intel Capital led all three investments; the amount of each investment was not disclosed.
The announcement coincides with Intel’s president and CEO, Paul Otellini, visit to the gulf region. The visit focused on driving and expanding economic, educational and technology-related support for the region.
“Intel Capital is committed to investing in local companies and encouraging entrepreneurship in technology in the Middle East to help provide communities with useful technology platforms,” commented Arvind Sodhani, president of Intel Capital and executive vice-president of Intel. “The Middle East is home to a great deal of talent and innovation. Looks like the Netbook market is about to get even hotter. Although officially labeled as a "PalmTop" this mini notebook features a Dual Core AMD Turion 64 x2 1.2GHz Processor along with a Touch Screen and 128MB of discrete ATI graphics. WD today announced the first 2 terabyte (TB) hard drive – the world’s highest capacity drive and the latest addition to WD’s popular, environmentally friendly, cool and quiet, WD® Caviar® Green™ hard drive family. This new 3.5-inch platform is based on WD’s industry-leading 500 GB/platter technology (with 400 Gb/in2 areal density) with 32 MB cache, producing drives with capacities of up to 2 TB.
