Google updates webmail Gmail client for mobiles- unless you’re on Windows Phone
Google has updated the webmail interface for GMail on mobile devices making it look very much like the iOS app. The update works well on Android, iPhone and even BlackBerry Z10's built-in browser applications but sadly does not on Microsoft's Windows Phone browser as you can see in our screenshot above.
The official reason will surely be that almost all other mobile browsers use the webkit engine whereas Microsoft's IE doesn't and that Google designed new GMail experience around webkit. However, it's no secret that Microsoft and Google are at war and it won't be surprising if this move was intentional. Google was also going to stop Activesync support for free GMail accounts which would have left a lot of Windows Phone users that rely on GMail without calendar and contacts syncing but that decision was delayed to end of summer.
