Microsoft to Begin Phasing Out Hotmail
Microsoft announced Tuesday that it will soon begin phasing out the Hotmail email service.
Last July, the Cupertino-based company launched a new browser-based email service with Outlook.com, designed to match modern features provided by Gmail , and provide integration with its revamped Skydrive cloud storage and the newly introduced web-based Office Suite.
Outlook.com will replace Hotmail as the service is now out of its preview stage. Users can opt for Outlook.com immediately and claim their own ‘@outlook.com’ alias, although they will still be able use the ‘@hotmail.com’ address.
Users who don’t switch over will be upgraded in waves. Senior director of product management Dharmesh Mehta said that the process should finish by the summer, though no exact date was given.
Since its debut, Outlook.com has attracted more than 60 million users.
Personally, if you are still using Hotmail, you are still using ancient technology. Make the switch to Outlook.com pronto!
