Posterous to close down on April 30th

Ah Posterous, you will be missed.

Okay, maybe not really - the blogging service that was once one of the most popular platforms online will be shutting its doors permanently on April 30th. The site was started in 2008 and quickly became popular with its simplistic posting-via-email scheme. The site became so popular among bloggers that in March of 2012 social media giant Twitter turned its gaze to Posterous and welcome the company into its fold.

But ever since the acquisition, we haven't really heard anything from Posterous, although the service continued to run uninterrupted. However in a blog post today Posterous CEO Sachin Agarwal said that posterous.com and all mobile apps would be turned off, to allow the team to "focus 100% of our efforts on Twitter".

Don't worry though, because if you're one of the twelve people still using Posterous, you can download your posts and images using their handy backup tools, or migrate your posts to services such as Wordpress or Squarespaces.
