Samsung confirms they’ve been working on smart watch before Apple
Something tells me that technology's next big breakthrough will be in the fledgling smart watch business. After Pebble had a very successful Kickstarter campaign for their smart watch that links to your phone and makes your watch much more than just a machine that tells you the time, a lot of interest was seen in the next phase of watches. But the big news arrived when we found out that Apple is apparently working on a smart watch that they predictably will be titling the 'iWatch'. But at the same time, it was also rumored that Samsung is working on their own version of a smart watch which may make you believe that they're following in the footsteps of Apple. But today, Samsung confirmed that such a watch is in development but that they have been working on it long before Apple's rumors began.
Bloomberg reports the words of Lee Young Hee, VP of Samsung Mobile, who makes it clear that the product has been in development for long:
“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long. We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”
There are no more details about the watch itself, but something tells me it may be called the Galaxy Watch or S-Watch. But instead of just trying to follow Apple's lead in this industry, it looks like Samsung is trying to develop the smart watch area and really excel in wearable computing.
