Epox 4PDA2+ (865PE) Motherboard : Layout

The EP-4PDA2+ boasts a green PCB, which has been the case with pretty much all the other Epox motherboards we have reviewed in the past. The top half of the motherboard is quite decently laid out but as you can see in the picture of the CPU socket, the heatsink on the Northbridge chip is just millimeters away from the frame of the CPU socket. While we could get our Aero Pentium 4 heatsink on without problems, heatsinks that are bigger in size towards the top may make contact with the Northbridge heatsink.

The RAM slots have been color coded and quite obviously, the matching colored DIMM slots equate to the two slots that have to be filled for dual channel mode to work. The bottom half of the EP-4PDA2+ is also quite decently laid out and we only had one problem with the actual layout. This was with the closeness of the Clear CMOS jumper to two capacitors and the SATA headers. Needless to say if you choose to make use of those particular SATA headers and find yourself needing to clear the CMOS, getting to the jumper will prove to be a hassle.

We seriously have to wonder what Epox was thinking when they positioned the jumper in such an inconvenient place, as a good deal of more than accessible real estate is still present on the motherboard.
