Silverstone TJ07 Chassis : The Exterior & Interior

While its certainly not the newest, the TJ07 is amongst the best chassis from Silverstone and has won many accolades from them. Today, we find out what is so special about this particular chassis.

The TJ07 I received is silver in color with no side window panel. The design of the case is rather unique- the top, front and bottom of the case is made up of one solid piece of aluminum ranging in thickness from 4mm to 8mm . The chassis weighs about 12.9 kg which is very heavy for an aluminum chassis. We like the fact that there are no sharp edges on the chassis that can cut your fingers. There is just one area that appears to be a bit sharp but Silverstone adds plastic molding there as well.

The TJ07 has seven 5.25’’ drive bays, however, Silverstone does not bundle any bezels along with the chassis for hiding optical drives with different colored face plates. The black/white DVD drives we used certainly messed up the chassis' awesome look. Below the 5.25" bays, you find the front I/O connections hidden in a removable bay held shut by a small magnet. The front I/O connections comprise of four USB ports, one Firewire, and Audio in/out connectors. Below the I/O connections is the power button, reset button, power LED and HDD LED. The reset button is tiny and requires a pin to press. As an Overclocker, I would have preferred a normal reset button for quick & easy access to rebooting my system.

The Ventilation on the TJ07 is rather unique- there is no front intake as seen in most chassis. The TJ07 is divided into two sections and each of them has its own unique airflow design. The top section has two 92mm fans taking in fresh air and two 120mm fans exhausting the hot air produced by the motherboard, CPU, and memory modules. I don’t think the graphics card is provided with sufficient airflow in this configuration.

The bottom section has two 120mm fans. Fresh air is taken in through the left and out through the right. The specifications for the fans thatSilverstone uses are as follows:

Top: Two 120mm exhaust fans- 1200rpm, 21dBA
Rear: Two 92mm intake fans- 2100rpm, 23dBA
Bottom: Two 120mm intake fans- 1200rpm, 21dBA

Separately these fans do not make a lot of noise but together they are a bit loud for my taste.
