The nVidia 7800GTX is currently the fastest GPU for gamers and when we looked at it when it was launched, we liked almost everything except for the $599 price tag that nVidia put on it. Last month, nVidia introduced the 7800GT graphics card and unfortunately due to custom regulations, the card didn’t make it to us in time. As you probably know it, the 7800GT that it’s a scaled down version of the 7800GTX- in terms of both, features and price.
Feature-wise, nVidia has cut down on the number of Vertex Shader units from eight to seven and Pixel Shader units from twenty four to twenty. The speed of the core has also been dropped from 430MHz to 400MHz and the memory from 1.2GHz (DDR) to 1.0GHz (DDR). Thats about all thats changed except for the price that nvidia suggests be $150 lower than the GTX- right about 25% less. Lets find out if the performance drops 25% as well or not.
Like the 7800GTX reference card, the 7800GT is a single slot solution however, the card is a bit smaller in size and runs cooler than the 7800GTX. The HSF unit is barely audible when the card is not pushing itself and would thus be a good option for a SFF PC especially since it draws lower power as well.
