The FX-60 is probably the last Socket 939 based FX CPU from AMD and instead of closing this chapter with a bang, it seems as though AMD is saving all their fireworks for their upcoming M2 socket based CPUs.

Compared to the FX-57 which is clocked at 2.8GHz, the FX-60 drops the speed down to 2.6GHz, however, AMD adds a second core. So basically, the FX-60 is a 2.6GHz dual core CPU with 1MB cache for each core- or 200MHz faster than similarly spec’ed the X2-4800. The following are details of the new CPU

Frequency 2.6GHz
Socket Socket 939
Process technology 90nm, SOI
Thermal Power 110W
Number of Transistors 233M
Dies Size 199mm2
64-bit Instruction Set Yes, AMD64 Technology
32-bit Instruction Set Yes, x86 ISA
HyperTransport™ support Up to 8GB/s
Integrated DDR Memory Controller Yes, Dual-channel
Integrated Northbridge Yes, 128-bit data past @ CPU core frequency
High Performance On-chip Cache L1:128KB + 128KB
L2: 1024KB + 1024KB
3D and Multimedia Instructions 3DNow! ™ Professional Technology, SSE/SSE2/SSE3

Lets get to the number straight away- the following is the testbed that was used for benchmarking CPUs

We've compared the FX-60 with most of the high-end CPUs available to us- the Athlon64 FX-57 and X2-4800+ on the AMD side and the 3.8GHz Pentium 680, 840D and XE 840D (3.2GHz each) on the Pentium4 platform. The following applications were used

Synthetic Benchmarks PC Mark 2005 Overall, PC Mark 2005 CPU, PC Mark 2005 Memory
Graphics Benchmarks: 3D Mark 2001SE, 3D Mark 2003, 3D Mark 2005, and Aquamark3- Default Settings.
Full Games: Counterstrike: Source, Far Cry and UT2004 at 1280x1024 resolution
Audio/Video Encoding: WorldBench: Jukebox, WB: Microsoft Media Encoder, WB: Adobe Premiere, AutoGK with Pirates of Carribian DVD, PC Mark: Audio/Video Multitasking test
3D Workstation Apps: 3D Studio MAX 7 with Max Tests, Cinebench 2003
General Applications: WorldBench: Adobe Photoshop, Ahead Nero, Microsoft Office, Mozilla and Winzip
