A few months back, a friend of mine was asking about any possible way of keeping his data safe on a USB stick. His data was sensitive and valuable and he didn’t want to carry a laptop around. I suggested some sort of encryption might do the trick but he wanted a more friendly solution. It seems as though AData has the perfect solution for someone like him with their MyFlash FingerPrint Disk.

To put it in simple words- it’s a USB drive with finger print recognition for keeping your data safe and is available in capacities from 256MB to 2GB . The FingerPrint Disk comes in an iPod white color and measures 66x24mm- pretty much the size of a standard USB drive. The sweep type sensor uses the latest bio-verification technology and allows you scan ten fingers/thumbs in total which allows it to be used by a group of people. This is great for companies that have executives traveling and needing to take company data. As a backup, you can assign a password in case you lose a finger or two- but we’re sure that you’ll have bigger worries if that happens :p

The good thing is that you don’t need to install any additional software to gain access to your files using finger prints or password. These files reside on the USB drive and run from it when you try to access the data. The disadvantage is that you’re restricted to using Windows which is a shame as Macs are becoming increasingly common and it doesn’t hurt to build Linux support. Connecting the USB drive to either of these Operating Systems simply doesn’t show any files on the drive.

Besides the Finger Print recognition, AData also has a couple of other interesting utilities on the FingerPrint Disk. One of them is a full fledged email client meaning you can basically take your inbox with you with this drive. The capacity of your flash drive would be the restricting factor on the number of emails, however, a 2GB drive should be fairly sufficient. AData also allows you to save your Web favorites and Login information for different sites with their applications.

While we’re not saying that the AData FingerDisk is unbreakable, it does add an additional level of protection for your data. And although someone can format the drive to gain access, your data will also be formatted. Thats basically it- the drive works as advertised and if you’re fairly certain that you’ll have access to Windows wherever you go, then the FingerPrint Disk could be as valuable as your information.
