USB drives are generally a bit lacking in innovation and speaking from a consumer’s point of view, I would probably pick one that offers me the most storage capacity for the least price while not looking too shabby or big. It thus becomes a bit hard for manufacturers to compete since all of them are offering almost identical products.

AData likes to do things a bit differently and a few weeks back, we looked at their USB drive that features a finger print sensor. This allowed for a more secure way to store your data on a standard USB drive. The fingerprintdisk allowed for upto ten fingers to be kept on record making it easy for different people from an organization to share the secured data. Today, we look at another AData USB drive that’s targeted towards organizations that buy and use USB drives by the bulk.

If you’re in an environment where your organization goes and buys a couple of dozen USB drives for its employees, then it usually becomes hard to distinguish between different drives and generally you would plug the drive in to check the contents to figure out if its yours or not. This could take a while especially if other people have a directory structure similar to yours or if you have to go through ten or twelve drives.

AData makes it easy by adding a tiny LCD screen on the USB drive that not only shows the name of the drive but also the capacity left. This makes it very easy for you to not only instantly recognize your drive but also to know if you need to empty it our or not before leaving your place to collect data.

There is no software required to name the drive- it simply shows the name of your drive that you can rename in almost any O/S that recognizes USB drives. We tried it out on a Mac as well as a windows system and it was as easy as selecting your drive and renaming it. You also immediately get an idea on how much capacity is left on the drive by a number as well as a pie graph.

The coolest thing is that there is no embedded battery that needs to replaced every so often to show the information. AData uses Bi-stable Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Display to show the information. We’re not familiar with thie technology but we can tell ya that its been working well for the past month since we’ve had this drive.

AData will be selling the Show Me Disk in capacities of 256MB, 512MB and 1GB and if you’re in an environment where you or your organization purchases multiple units for everyday usage, then we would certainly recommend AData’s Show Me Disk.
