Packaging The Stealth X Stream comes in a light weight blue/black box with features and specifications written all over it. Inside the packaging, you find the PSU, a power cable, mounting ATX screws and a manual. As you can see from the pictures, each of the cables are sleeved all the way from the main power supply to their respective connectors. Besides the main 20 +4 ATX cables, there are two PCI-e and two CPU power cables as well as three other cables. The first cable has three SATA connectors, the second one has three Molex connectors while the last one has two molex and one floppy type connector. In total, this allows you to power eight optical/hard drives without any extensions. OCZ equips a 120mm fan that is also black colored to go with the stealth theme on the PSU. You can see Honey comb grills on the rear side of the PSU while the nicely detailed technical specifications are located on the right side where you can find out more on the 12v output wattage. Here comes the part where we rip out the warranty to see what’s going on under the hood to check out the quality of the PCB, capacitors and the 4x12v locations. The left picture on the top shows an overview of the board to get a quick glance on the overall design of the PSU. There are three aluminum heatsinks, two of which are attached to chassis of the PSU towards the center. Here reside the main transformer and sub transformer, modeled 8TG00192 and H11A817B. The model number of the PCB is FSP700-80GLC which we figured is original by FSP Group (Fortron Source Productions) . These guys also sells their boards to other brands like Sparkle. We saw this PCB being used by OCZ on their FSP700-80GLC PSU as well which has received nVidia’s SLI Certification at 700w. The 12v locations are near each other. The 12v3 section has a provision for adding four more 12v cables which can be done by some soldering skills. For cooling the PSU, OCZ adds just one 120mm black fan which is branded as Yate Loon Electronic, model number D12SH-12. This fan is 12v rated and capable of spinning at 2200 RPM speed with 88 CFM under 40 dB- kinda noisy. Testing configuration CPU: Intel X6800 @ default speed Motherboard : Asus P5b premium Video card : Asus 8800 GTX RAM : Corsair 2x1GB XMS2-9136 @ 1066 + SPD timings Hard Disk : 1x80GB Seagate 7200.10 + WD 320GB WD3200JS Optical Drive: Toshiba HD DVD-ROM MN: SD-H802A OS : Windows Vista Ultimate 32Bit
Conclusion Its not easy getting the 12v stable above 12.2v at all times with an 8800 GTX card, buts the 600W OCZ X Stream pulled it off, thanks to its PCB which its rated to run at 700W. On other hand, the 120mm fan should’ve been less noisy- after all, this is a “Stealth” model. We also wish that OCZ had added a couple of extra SATA connectors instead of Molex, but with converters readily available and bundled with many boards, that’s not much of an issue. Do keep in mind that this is a mid-range 600W PSU so don’t expect to see four PCI-e connectors to power an 8800GTX SLI or HD2900XT Crossfire setup. OCZ prices it at roughly AED 525 with shipping and 3 year warranty backed by OCZ’s exclusive PowerSwap™ replacement program. The XStream has always maintained a good price-performance ratio and that holds true for the 600W gamers version as well. For availability, please contact Kian Tech L.L.C. at +971 4 3594556
