The last article we did measured the performance of the 8800 Ultra against other cards. The Ultra, proved to be too powerful for any single card to compete against it, however, its price of roughly US$800 can easily buy you two Radeon HD2900XT cards. Today we find out how well the 8800 Ultra stacks against two Radeon 2900XT cards in a Crossfire configuration.

Sure, the 8800 Ultra will consume lesser power than two 2900XTs and take lesser number of slots but we’re not going to argue about that today. The purpose of this article is pure and simple- if you are to spend $800 on graphics cards, would a single 8800 Ultra yield better performance than two HD 2900XT cards in Crossfire mode?

For this article, we used the MSI 8800 Ultra and the reference Radeon 2900XT cards sent by AMD. Lets get right into it and introduce the testbed.
