Packaging

Features listed above leave strong impression, but it’s not first time that we see some bold claims about power efficiency or stability. Before we go into details and make first tests, let’s take a look at the packaging of Enermax Galaxy.

On the outside of this heavy box you can see how the PSU looks like, while the back of box gives you more details about PSU’s specifications. Once when you open this box from the side, you’ll get two more boxes holding more surprises for you.

First of two boxes contains a tools holder, manual, list of other Enermax products , high quality fused 3-pin power cable, some screws, PCI-e Molex covers, badges and mobile accessories. We truly like good-bundled products, but list of products inside the first box doesn’t end here.

Inside the same box, you’ll also find a few cables, 2x PCI-e cables (45cm in length), 5xSATA cables (each of the cable can hold 3 SATA HDD’s with 75cm in length), 3x ODD/HDD normal 4-pin connectors (75cm), 2x ODD/HDD/FDD connectors (75cm) with single 2x2 +12V RAM power cable (45cm).

Second box contains well-protected Galaxy 1000W power supply unit. On the first sight, Galaxy takes the breath away with Black Pearl color look and Galaxy logo on the both sides, but what’s for sure is that you won’t be carrying it much around since it’s really heavy.

A huge 13.5cm fan is located at the bottom of the PSU in order to cool down this monster, while 80mm fan is located at the front, next to power input and the main switch. On the front side, you’ll also notice the Reset button. This is the first PSU we reviewed having the reset button which is used when PowerGuard starts to beep under abnormal situation, so you can press it to temporarily deactivate the internal buzzer. The light under the reset button indicates the status of the PSU, e.g. when you see orange light it means the system is on standby mode, green light indicates that the PSU is on and running flawlessly while blinking red indicates that the fan is running on a fewer than 450rpm. If there is a short-circuit in the system, the PSU will shut down immediately and a red light will be showed indicating that the PSU protection circuit is activated.

Enermax Galaxy 1000W is not meant for low - end systems, meaning it will not run if you have a motherboard that has everything integrated with single HDD or so, since you’ll get a red light on the front of the PSU telling you the PowerGuard is on.

On the top of the PSU, there is a sticker that holds full specification of the PSU and finally on the rear side of the PSU you can see the modular outputs for PCI-e, HDD/ODD/peripherals and other information that you might need to know.

Conclusion

Even two of power hungry Radeon 2900 XT graphics cards couldn’t make the Enermax Galaxy 1000W go below 12.2V at load or idle. We did our best to put Enermax Galaxy 1000W under heavy load with system requiring many 12V rails, however Galaxy finished all tests and left us with impression that you can connect more hard drives and fans without worrying about possible power problems.

A special thanks goes to Power Optionz for providing us with the Enermax Galaxy 1000 Watts for the review. Enermax’s PSU is available from Power Optionz for AED 1250.
