Mushkin has been around for a very long time and have certainly established their reputation as a high-end memory manufacturer. We take a look at their 4GB DDR-2 kit today- modeled as the Mushkin 4GB XP-6400. With the continuously increasing demand on resources, maybe it’s a good time to upgrade the system’s memory to 4GB- that’s what we find out today. Do keep in mind that in order to fully utilize memory over 2GB, a 64-bit Operating system is required.

Specifications

  • Frequency: 800Mhz
  • Latency: 4-4-4-12
  • Voltage: 2.0-2.1V
  • Chip: 128x8
  • Pins: 240
  • Parity: Unbuffered
  • Module: 256Mx64

A simple white and green see-through package surrounds the two 2GB modules. If you want to learn more about the modules, you can read details on the back side of the Package.

The heatsink design on these modules is simple - its all black in colour and held together by two aluminum clips. The top of the modules has ridged design which certainly makes the modules different to look at. Like almost all memory modules, a sticker is found on one side with details such as the timings, voltage and the model of the memory.

Its quite easy to remove the heatsinks on the modules by simply removing the Aluminum clip. This reveals the true identity of the memory chips and we found that unlike a vast majority of RAM companies that buy chips from a third party, Mushkin uses their own chips with model of MKN22D128M86F-25
