We take a quick look at the Corsair Dominator CM3X1024-1800C7DIN DDR3 memory modules today. Corsair rates it at 1800Mhz frequency with timings of 7-7-7-20 at 2.0.
Features - 2048 Megabytes of DDR3 memory Two matched CM3X1024-1800C7D modules
- Using DHX technology providing maximum cooling
- Comes with Airflow Fan for maximum thermal transfer
- 100% tested at 1800MHz in high performance DDR3 motherboards
- Lifetime warranty
Packaging These new DDR3 modules come inside standard Corsair packaging which allows you to see the modules through the transparent plastic. Along with the modules Corsair bundles the Airflow Fan with it kit and instruction manual. Both the sides of the heatsink module have Corsair’s branding on them. Detailed timings and voltages with full model number is written on a one side of the heatsink which Corsair label’s as DHX or Dual-Path Heatsink Xchange. They say that the design with optimized fins is to maximize ambient airflow for better cooling on the Ram.
Testing We tested the memory modules on the Asus Maximus Extreme motherboard with Intel E6550 CPU which overclocks a lot better than our Quad Core QX9770. Using the dual core CPU, we easily 500MHz+ on the FSB.
Conclusion
The Corsair CM3X1024-1800C7DIN modules certainly deliver on their promise of 1800 MHz frequency and timings at the required voltage of 2.0v which translated into a nice performance boost as you can see from the table above. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to overclock these modules much beyond its rated frequency- the best we could do was just 60MHz higher at 1860Mhz. Applying additional voltage or lowering timings didn’t help. Also worth noting is that applying 2.0v to your modules makes them quite hot and thus we recommend making use of the Dominator Fan kit that is included in the package. The Corsair Dominator CM3X1024-1800C7DIN kit is available in local market for a price tag of AED 1840/- which is roughly equivalent of US$500/-.
