We set our sights today on an Asus 22” LCD VW223B monitor featuring Asus EzLink display for multi-tasking applications via a USB interface.
Packaging The packaging appears to be pretty basic, nothing flashy. As we delve into the box, we find the usual standard accessories that come along with monitors these days. We found; the monitor’s stand, driver CD, standard D-Sub video cable, user manual, warranty booklet and three different types of power cables which allows ASUS to use the same packaging for a large part of the globe instead of independently bundling different cables for different regions. Design Tucked within a semi gloss, black frame is a 22” widescreen TFT LCD with a true resolution of up to WSXGA+ 1680x1050 and a contrast ratio of 3000:1 along with 5ms response time. The only viewpoint adjustment offered with this monitor is a vertical tilt from -5 to +25 degrees. There are six buttons on the bottom right hand corner of the face of the black frame. From left to right, the first of the six is for switching between the five video preset modes with SPLENDID Video Enhancement Technology. We then have the contrast adjustment button which also doubles as a down selection button, followed by the menu button that activates the OSD, the brightness adjustment button also doubling as an up selection button, the input selection button to switch between VGA and EzLink display and lastly the all important power button that gets the monitor up and running. | |
On the left of the monitor, you will notice something not normally seen on LCD monitors, three USB 2.0 ports which are connections for Asus EzLink and they also double as a standard USB hub for convenient plugging in of USB peripherals. Asus developed EzLink as a means to use an “easy-to-use” USB interface to send a digital video signal from the PC to the monitor without the need for additional graphics adapters. With EzLink, you are able to work with as many as six Asus EzLink monitors for multi-screen applications. The standard 3-pin power input, the VGA D-Sub input and the EzLink USB 2.0 port are all located on the rear of the monitor facing down.
