Some predicted that Facebook’s acquisition of Whatsapp could cause the service to lose users, but that has not been the case at all.Today, the company announced it has crossed 500 million active users, an up of 50 million users from the time the social network acquired the messaging service.

According to Whatsapp, the app has seen the fastest growth in countries like Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia, and users have shared more than 700 million photos and 100 million videos every day.
